Struck for Canada's 150th year on a thick piedfort planchet — double the depth of a standard coin — Pierre Leduc's Timeless Icons design bridges 1867 and 2017, its beaver and maple leaf passing from classical engraving into contemporary style across the face of the coin. The icons, rim and portrait glow in selective gold plating against 99.99% pure silver proof fields.

Collector Specifications

Country: Canada

Year: 2017

Denomination: $25

Composition: 99.99% Pure Silver with selective gold plating

Weight: 31.39 g (1 troy oz, piedfort thickness)

Diameter: 34 mm

Finish: Proof

Edge: Serrated

Certificate: Serialized RCM COA

Condition: Sealed in original RCM packaging as received — coin photographs to be added; box and case shown

Mintage: 7,000

Designer: Pierre Leduc (reverse); Susanna Blunt (obverse)

Historical Significance

The piedfort — a coin struck at double thickness — traces its lineage to medieval France, where kings commissioned these hefty pieces as presentation treasures. The Mint revived the form for Canada's sesquicentennial and, for the first time anywhere in its history, dressed one in gold plating. With just 7,000 struck, it stands among the scarcer issues of the Canada 150 program.
