Historical Significance

To help pay for the 1976 Summer Olympics in Montreal, Canada issued 28 sterling silver coins in seven series of four between 1973 and 1976. They were the first Olympic coins Canada ever made, and the program raised money for the Games while giving collectors a set to build year by year.

Series III, "Early Canadian Sports", honours sports with deep roots in Canada. The information card notes that lacrosse was played by Indigenous peoples long before the first settlers arrived.

Why We Love This One

Four classic Canadian pastimes in over four ounces of sterling silver, with the original case and card. A lovely piece of Olympic and Canadian sporting history.
