Historical Significance
Canada's new circulating dollar coin was released in July 1987 and, as the insert notes, replaced the nickel dollar. The loon design quickly gave the coin its nickname, the loonie. As the insert explains, this special proof edition commemorates the first year of issue.
Why We Love This One
Every Canadian knows the loonie, but few have seen a first-year proof in its original case. A fun, affordable piece of everyday Canadian history.
