The 2012 Canadian Lucky Loonie, struck by the Royal Canadian Mint in pure silver for the London 2012 Games, with a common loon spreading its wings in a territorial display and the red Canadian Olympic Team logo in colour beside it. It continues the good-luck tradition that began with the loonie buried under the ice in Salt Lake City in 2002.
Struck in 7.89 g of 99.99% pure silver, 26.5 mm across, proof finish with a plain edge. Emily Damstra's loon is paired with Susanna Blunt's effigy of Queen Elizabeth II. It comes in the Mint's maroon clamshell with the serialized certificate (no outer box).

Historical Significance
Canada's Lucky Loonie legend started at the 2002 Winter Olympics, when a loonie hidden under centre ice saw both hockey teams win gold. The Mint has issued a Lucky Loonie for every Games since; this is the silver version for London 2012.
Why We Love This One
A fun little piece of Olympic history. Easy gift for a hockey fan or a loonie collector.
