Renowned Canadian wildlife artist Glen Loates brings the beaver to life in one full ounce of pure silver. The reverse captures an adult beaver at the bank of a waterway, hard at work felling a tree — webbed back paws planted, broad tail counterbalancing, sharp incisors deep in the trunk — with one of its lodges rising from the lake behind, backed by dense forest.

Struck in 99.99% pure silver with a proof finish and limited to just 8,500 pieces worldwide, this is the larger, artist-driven counterpart to the Mint's smaller wildlife issues. It arrives complete in its original Royal Canadian Mint maroon clamshell case with serialized certificate of authenticity.

Historical Significance

Glen Loates is one of Canada's most celebrated natural history artists, whose wildlife paintings hang in collections worldwide. The beaver — one of Canada's two national animals and the emblem of the fur trade that shaped the country's early economy — receives here a naturalist's treatment rather than a heraldic one, rendered with the anatomical fidelity Loates is known for.

Why We Love This One

Glen Loates paints wildlife like a naturalist, and you can see it in every detail of this beaver. It's the full-ounce, 8,500-mintage big sibling to the smaller wildlife coins.
