The Royal Canadian Mint's Tribute: W Mint Mark series re-strikes Canada's classic circulation designs on a full ounce of silver, each carrying the 'W' of the Winnipeg facility. This 2023 coin is the loon dollar – Robert-Ralph Carmichael's design that has been on the loonie since 1987.

Struck in 31.39 g of 99.99% pure silver, 38 mm across, in the Mint's tailored specimen finish. It comes with the black clamshell, black beauty box and serialized certificate. Mintage is limited to 7,500.

Historical Significance

When the dollar coin replaced the paper dollar in 1987, the planned voyageur design dies were lost in transit and Carmichael's loon was chosen instead – which is how Canada got the 'loonie'. The W Mint Mark series honours the Winnipeg plant that has struck Canada's circulation coins since 1976.

Why We Love This One

The loonie at one full ounce, with the W mark collectors look for. Only 7,500 made – it belongs beside the Bluenose and Caribou coins from the same series.
