Historical Significance

No. 2 Construction Battalion was formed in 1916, during the First World War. It was Canada's only all-Black battalion, made up of volunteers who had been turned away from other units and who served overseas in forestry and construction work. The Mint released this coin for Black History Month in 2023.

Why We Love This One

A powerful story that deserves to be better known, on a beautiful one-ounce proof. With only 5,500 made, it's a meaningful addition to any Canadian history collection.
