A miniature wooden canoe rests on a rocky, selectively coloured shoreline, two paddles waiting on the sand and a twig of coloured maple leaves nearby. The canoe is laser-etched to look like real wood grain. Margaret Best designed this 2017 coin for the Royal Canadian Mint.

Struck in one ounce (31.39 g) of 99.99% pure silver, 38 mm across, proof finish with a serrated edge. The obverse carries Susanna Blunt's effigy of Queen Elizabeth II. It comes in the Mint's maroon clamshell with the black outer box and serialized certificate. Only 4,500 were made.

Why We Love This One

The little wood canoe is the kind of detail that makes people pick a coin up and look twice. Pure cottage-country Canada on an ounce of silver.
